Today's economy  /  Deregulation

Some industries could benefit from economic deregulation and produce real growth:

  • Voice telephone services
  • Broadband telecommunications
  • Competition among airlines and the privatization of air traffic control to improve the pricing of airport landing rights and reduce air traffic congestion
  • Auctioning more of the electromagnetic spectrum
  • Non-price allocation of water and highways

The delicate balance that needs to be achieved between the opportunity cost of clean water and pristine air accompanies any economic benefit.  I’m not willing to risk the health and well-being of the American public.  Again, I have not found corporations to be responsible enough on their own.

Is Government out of control?  Most definitely.  Does that mean we should shut down the Education Department, the EPA, or the Energy Department?  No.  Business does require supervision. These are all viable departments that are REQUIRED to protect the American public if only to provide oversight that ensures the protection of all Americans.

Texas has a state version of the EPA called the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  Every state has their own version.  Why do we need the redundancy on the Federal level?  I will draft legislation that eliminates the EPA except as an oversight of the state agencies.  The current budget for the EPA is 8.1 billion with a workforce of 15,3761.  That’s double what it was when established.  If they are limited to oversight, the workforce should be cut to 5,000 with a budget of $5 million.

Energy policies

Climate change is real and we must get to work.  With the advent of the current deregulation, we will ruin this Earth in a manner of years.

We have a delicate eco-system created by God that has already been abused to its limit.  Corporations have shown their true colors when it comes to the bottom line and the environment.  They will always choose increased revenues over people and the environment.  We saw that with the Deep Horizon, Exxon Valdez, Love Canal, and the BP disaster, to name a few.  Important marine life is now extinct and our ecosystem is forever changed as a result.  How many more disasters do we need before American believes less of what they say and instead looks at the history?

Scientists have shown us repeatedly that we are damaging our Earth.  Americans must stand up to the corporations who want to dump their waste in our rivers and streams, and pollute our air, all so the officers can report an increase in their bottom line to the higher-ups.   Let's keep moving in the direction toward alternative energy-and that's not fracking, Mr. Cruz.

It's up to our state EPA agencies to become the new sheriff in town.  The Federal Environmental Protection Agency is redundant.
