Today's economy  /  Fraud, waste & abuse

logo for the government Accounting OfficeThe U.S. Government Accountability Office (“GAO”) issues an annual report entitled, Additional Opportunities to Reduce Fragmentation, Overlap, and Duplication and Achieve Other Financial Benefits.

Our government provides a report identifying savings totaling $406 billion, and Congress can’t pass a law correcting the problem?  I’ll make this a priority because as an accountant, waste and duplication of effort pushes my buttons.  I’ll eliminate it anywhere I find it, and I’ll review the current GAO report and get to work eliminating these easy fixes as Sen. Tom Coburn tried to do1.

Taxpayers pay good money for this report and no one uses it for its intended purpose? Once an area is identified, fixing the problem should be the next step.  Sounds a bit backwards to me.
