Today's economy  /  Size of government

image of U.S. Capitol hemorrhaging moneyThe government is a necessary evil, and by passing laws filled with pork, it’s become an ugly beast.  We have no choice, but to keep what works and get rid of what doesn’t.  And we can’t throw out the baby with the bathwater, so to speak.  No parent on this planet is willing to trust a Corporation with ensuring the drinking water is safe to drink.  The American public has seen time and time again, the profit motive will always outweigh the public good.

Each Secretary of a Department should mandate a review of regulations with a mindset to curb redundancies and outdated rules.  Government has grown exponentially and we can no longer afford it, hence our deficit.  It’s time to tighten our belts and trim the fat.

Every Department has a purpose.  However, departments primarily meant to oversee have grown, and frequently, in areas handled by the states such as the EPA and the Department of Education.

Essential work is being done in the other Departments that protect the American public.  However, these departments will have to learn to do more with less.  Presenting a budget with a 25% cuts in each department will force these departments to focus on working smarter rather than harder.
