The Lazy Patriot
We are all culpable…by creating the vacuum that led to the election of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States. There are many reasons his Presidency has happened: voting along party lines, not taking the time to research who we were electing or even worse not voting at all; we had careers and families. We just checked the box and hoped that the elected officials do their jobs. Sadly, that did not happen.
When we graduate from high school, the excitement around voting that first time is profound, our voices were going to be heard, our views will have counted. We watch all the debates and argued our positions with our friends and families. Going into that booth for the first time, it was serious and important.
But over time, life gets busier, careers are forged, families are started, and civic duty falls by the wayside. We step into the voting booth and we make due by reading the paragraph in the voter information sheet as we vote. We get lazy and vote along party lines and hope for the best. Of course, life gets in the way, maybe it was a rotten day at work, or it's raining, or you just can't be bothered because all candidates "are the same" and you talk yourself out of voting altogether.
And because of it, for that measure of time, that lapse of responsibility, we willingly gave up our responsibility as citizens and the result was Donald J Trump is the President of the United States.
We need to accept what we have done, or what we didn't do, but hope is not lost. We are the result of a group of brave citizens who refused to bow down to a King, who chose to fight for their independence, to give themselves a voice in how they wanted to live. Who were ready to fight for this country, for their liberty and pursuit of happiness. That time has come again, our country is under siege and now it is our time to fight back. We will not be using weapons, but with our participation in the election process. It is our duty as citizens of this great county to vote. To show our elected officials that we are not looking the other way, that we know what they are doing and why they are doing it. We must hold them accountable and vote them out. If we don't tell them what we demand from them, big money, corporations and their donors will. It is our voices they need to hear.
We must prove that we don't take our democracy for granted, that we are not going to accept the status quo, that our country is worth fighting for. I'll shoulder the blame for my past and vow to move forward with a love for this country that will outshine all this hatred and bigotry. Our democracy, our rights, and our freedoms, the very principles that make this country great are in jeopardy. Who's with me?
We must care, we have to make the effort, we the people must take a stand. We must call out racism and bigotry when we see or hear it, with our friends, neighbors, and co-workers. We need to say something! Anything! We can no longer let those sentiments live and breathe in the same air as democracy and freedom. We need to rise-up and take down hatred and ignorance in our society. Stand up and with our fellow man against racism and bigotry anywhere and everywhere you see it.
Donald J. Trump does not represent America, he doesn't represent who we are as a country. He does not speak for us; his actions and words don't reflect who we are. We need to elect citizens who aren't for sale to the highest bidder, who makes us proud to represent our country, who really understands what being an American citizen means and we need to elect a Senators that stands up for us and doesn't bow down to Donald Trump.
And Mr. Cruz-As usual, too little, too late.
Send Ted Cruz home.
Dear Texans,
My world changed with a reading of Green Eggs and Ham. I know it sounds silly, but that little stunt, began the shutdown of our government and directly affected my family. My husband was serving in his 25th year as an Officer in the United States Navy. I watched as his already long hours increased as his sleep lessened. My husband had to work harder and longer as a direct result of Mr. Cruz's actions. That day, Mr. Cruz hurt our military preparedness, and our national security, and for that I knew he could not continue as our Senator.
When I began my research for my website, the wealth of articles on his ineptitude boggled the mind. Countless resources indicating he spent most of his time running for President instead of representing his constituents. I could not let that stand, especially when he started bragging about running unopposed.
But I'm also more than a military wife, I've been an accountant for thirty years and a CPA for fifteen. Dusting off old, disproven theories and selling them to the public is unethical, and a tactic Ted is fond of using. It is widely known that Trickle Down Economics was a marketing ploy and almost all economists have disproved the theory with historical data from the Reagan era. That tax bill was not tax reform; it was a redistribution of wealth.
It's time to get out and vote and send Ted home on March 6th. He has never represented Texans and for those who hang their hopes on Mr. O'Rourke, I'd like to remind everyone that a Democrat hasn't sat for the state of Texas for 33 years and Beto doesn't have the good fortune of being opposed by a pedophile.
I need every Republican, Independent, and Democrat vote to send Ted home and return dignity and integrity to the Texas political arena. Jump the fence and vote for Mary Miller to send Ted home.
Very respectfully,
Mary Miller, CPA
